The Nigerian police force has faced major challenges in record keeping, documentation, and data management. Currently, the manual process of record keeping is slow, inefficient, and error-prone. This has led to a backlog of criminal records, delayed justice dispensation, and many other problems. Hence, there is a need for a more effective and efficient online record keeping system to facilitate timely processing of criminal records.
1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The primary objective of this study is to design and implement an online record keeping system for the Nigerian Police Force that can handle criminal records efficiently and effectively. Specifically, the study aims to:
- Identify the current challenges facing the Nigerian Police Force in record keeping.
- Develop an online record keeping system that is easy to use, efficient, and reliable.
- Test and evaluate the performance of the developed system.
- Provide recommendations for the implementation and improvement of the system.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The study will be of immense importance to the Nigerian Police Force, as it will provide a solution to the current challenges facing the force in record keeping. With the implementation of the online record keeping system, the Nigerian Police Force will be able to process criminal records faster, reduce errors in documentation, and improve overall efficiency in record keeping.
Furthermore, the study will be of great benefit to the general public, as it will enhance transparency and accountability in the Nigerian Police Force. This will foster public trust and confidence in the ability of the force to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study will focus solely on the design and implementation of an online record keeping system for the Nigerian Police Force. The system will be developed to handle criminal records and will be tested and evaluated for performance.
1.6 METHODOLOGY
The study will employ a qualitative research design, and data collection will be done through interviews and questionnaires. The collected data will be analyzed using statistical software. The developed system will be evaluated for its performance using appropriate testing techniques.
1.7 ORGANIZATION OF THE STUDY
The study will be organized into five chapters. Chapter one will provide an introduction to the study, including the background, statement of the problem, objectives, significance, scope, methodology, and organization of the study. Chapter two will focus on the review of related literature and theoretical framework. Chapter three will describe the research methodology, including the research design, data collection methods, data analysis techniques, and system design. Chapter four will present the results of the study, including the system design and testing. Chapter five will provide a summary of the study, conclusions, and recommendations for future research.
In summary, this study aims to proffer solutions to the current challenges facing the Nigerian Police Force in record keeping by developing an online record keeping system that is easy to use, efficient, and reliable. By doing so, it is hoped that the study will enhance transparency and accountability in the Nigerian Police Force, foster public trust and confidence in the ability of the force to ensure public safety, and uphold the rule of law.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
The current manual record-keeping system used by the Nigeria Police Force is an outdated approach. Police officers use paper to record criminal information, which is stored in a manual file in a cabinet. This method is susceptible to destruction by fire, vandalism, tampering or changes in the environment.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main objective of this research is to design and implement a computerized record-keeping system for the Nigeria Police Force, making work efficient and effective.
Objectives:
i. Provide an advanced recording tool for the Nigeria Police Force
ii. Establish an easy-to-use analysis tool for crime data
iii. Reduce workloads related to manual record-keeping methods
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The proposed web-based system is significant because it provides an easy, efficient, secure and less cumbersome way of record-keeping for the Nigeria Police Force. It allows the exportation of crime records to the cloud for backup and security measures, reducing workloads for police officers and providing an effective way of analyzing crime and criminals for different divisions.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This research project permits Nigeria Police Officers to upload and update criminal records. The study will focus on understanding information communication technology standards.
1.6 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
This research project is limited to the Nigeria Police Force and designs and implements the record-keeping system. Limitations include:
i. Security of the system entirely depends on the Operating System.
ii. Identifying criminals with image data only.
iii. Access is limited to one user, the officer in charge of recording crime.
