I have a profound fascination for the elegant application of mathematics in science. When I was first introduced to the band structure of solids, I was intrigued by the fact that silicon and germanium, despite being formed by different atoms, share identical degeneracy in their band structures. It was through the beauty of group theory that I was able to find the answer to my question. The interpretation of group elements as symmetry operators and the character table of the group helped to depict universal patterns that are in line with the symmetry of lattice systems, such as the diamond cubic lattice. This experience ignited a desire within me to explore the enchanting connections that exist between mathematics and the natural world.
Although I find all forms of mathematics fascinating, computational math holds a special place in my heart. I feel a great sense of satisfaction when I am creating graphics and games using C programming, as I work with importance sampling to design motion pictures, cartoon animations, and games. I am particularly excited about how computational math enables scientists to solve age-old problems in various fields, such as protein folding in biology. It was through these experiences that I came to the realization that, as someone who is well-versed in mathematics, modeling, and programming, I could be a “scientist” in applied math. This would enable me to participate in groundbreaking research in all science disciplines.
My bachelor’s degree in science included majors in Math, Physics, and Chemistry. Through the diploma courses I took, I was able to further expand my understanding of the natural world, while gaining an appreciation for the interconnectedness of science disciplines. I have consistently ranked in the top 2% of my class, thanks in large part to my exceptional performance in Mathematics, where I managed to score 10 out of 10 for every semester, and a 9.43 CGPA overall. Operations research (OR) is my favorite subject in Mathematics, as it equips me with the analytical tools needed to solve problems and make decisions that are essential for organizational management. I find the concepts in game theory particularly interesting, as they help to explain real-life situations where two individuals interact, and how their actions impact the outcomes. This exposure enabled me to formulate a payoff matrix for games, understand partial and total conflict games, and interpret solutions based on LP and NLP.
I have also received official two-year diploma training in Cisco Networking, where I scored a remarkable 95%. The coursework was extremely enlightening, and I was able to gain a deeper understanding of subjects such as Introduction to Networks, Routing and Switching Essentials, Scaling Networks, and Connecting Networks.
I am now pursuing a Master’s degree in science, with a major in Applied Mathematics. I decided to focus on this field due to its flexibility, as it allows me to apply mathematical ideas to various problems in different fields, while remaining grounded in empirical data. Throughout my studies, I have excelled in a range of subjects, including but not limited to Abstract Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Discrete Analysis, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Galois Theory, Complex Analysis, Topology, and Statistical Methods in Data Science. I have consistently ranked in the top 2% of my class, and the diligence and methodical approach I have developed over the years has helped me excel in my studies.
Thanks to my experience with computers, I have developed a considerable degree of familiarity with them, and have been able to grasp advanced concepts in computer languages and programming with relative ease. Through my experience with the C programming language, I have become proficient enough to develop code for a range of games, including snake game, animations featuring a man sailing in the rain and a moving car, and Sudoku puzzle games. This experience has deepened my interest in Computational Mathematics.
If you would grant me the chance to pursue MS at your institution, it would be a tremendous honor. I possess the necessary skillset, experience, and drive to make a valuable impact in my field and I am eager to establish a productive and enduring relationship with your esteemed university, provided that I receive adequate financial aid.
In closing, I extend my gratitude for this opportunity to articulate my aspirations and I eagerly anticipate the prospect of being admitted to your graduate program.
