The organization chosen for this task is Perusahaan Otomobil National, also commonly referred to as PROTON, which means National Automobile Enterprise in English. It was founded in 1983 in response to the vision of Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who wanted to establish a domestic car industry in Malaysia. PROTON became the dominant car maker in Malaysia alongside PERODUA in 1993. The company's main goal was achieved with the introduction of the PROTON SAGA (MPI), the first national car. In September 1985, PROTON established its first manufacturing plant in Shah Alam, Selangor. Since the launch of SAGA, PROTON has exported vehicles to over 50 countries, including the UK, Australia, and Singapore.
PROTON currently employs over 6,000 individuals and is dedicated to investing heavily in engineering and technology development. To accomplish this, PROTON has acquired LOTUS, a renowned engineering and automotive company, by purchasing 100% of the shares. With the acquisition of LOTUS technologies from ACBN Holdings (a company owned by Bugatti) in 1996, PROTON has been able to take advantage of the significant skills and expertise that LOTUS employees offer. Consequently, this has led to the expansion of PROTON's model line to include Waja, Satria Gti, Wira, Iswara, Arena, Perdana V6, and Juara. Acquisition of techno knowledge enables PROTON to achieve both short-term and long-term objectives.
The original PROTON logo, created in 1985, represented strength and Malaysian heritage; however, it was later replaced in 1993 to reflect more international and liberalistic characteristics. In 2020, PROTON also introduced a new logo with a stylized tiger head and the company's name written above it. The purpose of the new design is to unite all PROTON vehicle badges and inspire strength, reliability, and a Malaysian identity. Below is a comparison between PROTON logo from its inception until the present day.

PROTON has expanded its historic success by introducing the first Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV), the Proton Exora, in 2009. Proton Exora has garnered widespread popularity in Malaysia and Thailand, where it was recognized in the Bangkok Post's "Top 10 Vehicles in Thailand." In 2012, PROTON transitioned from being a government-linked entity to a privately-owned business after being acquired by DRB-HICOM Berhad. The acquisition ensured that the company maintained its position as Malaysia's largest automobile manufacturer. PROTON and LOTUS have established themselves as strong players in the global automotive industry, and the company believes in their continued success.
