The organization chosen for this task is Perusahaan Otomobil National, also commonly referred to as PROTON, which means National Automobile Enterprise in English. It was founded in 1983 in response to the vision of Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who wanted to establish a domestic car industry in Malaysia. PROTON became the dominant car maker in Malaysia alongside PERODUA in 1993. The company's main goal was achieved with the introduction of the PROTON SAGA (MPI), the first national car.
